Pendle Heritage Centre, Park Hill, Barrowford

Pendle Heritage Centre is situated in Barrowford at the heart of Lancashire's Hill Country besides an ancient crossing of Pendle water. The Centre is set in a range of beautifully restored Grade 11 Listed farm buildings.

Visitor facilities include:

PENDLE ART GALLERY. The Gallery and Craft Shop are housed in the sympathetically renovated Park Hill Barn, has displays of work by professional craft persons and artists. The Art Gallery is housed in the Park Hill Barn which was restored by the Trust and for which it received a Civic Trust Award. There is a regular changing exhibition of work by professional artists and crafts-persons, including a popular Christmas Show.

THE MUSEUM contains a wealth of information about the history and development of the farmhouse, the story of the notorious Pendle witches and of the Bannister family who built the original house in the 1400's. Exhibitions include:

- The story of a Lancashire farmhouse. Dating from the 15th century, Park Hill was a working   farm for most of its existence. Use the inter-active computer to see how Park Hill grew from   the first timber framed building to the house you see today.
- The story of the notorious Pendle Witches which resulted in their famous trial in 1612.
- The history of the Bannister family, who settled at Park Hill in the 1400s, and the Swinglehursts   who occupied part of the house from the late 18th century and built the Georgian extension.

THE WALLED GARDEN, WOODLAND WALK AND THE CRUCK FRAMED BARN. The garden is stocked with authentic plants from the 18th Century and houses a small museum about it's restoration. From the garden you can take the woodland walk to the splendid 15th Century cruck framed barn which was rescued from demolition in the 1980's and re-erected at Park Hill.

THE PARLOUR SHOP AND TOURIST INFORMATION CENTRE. The Parlour Shop is stocked with a wide range of publications including local history, local interest, cookery and gardening books, souvenirs, confectionery, preserves and lots more. The TIC staff will help you get the most out of your visit to this beautiful and little known area including ideas for walks, places to visit and overnight accommodation.

THE GARDEN TEAROOM. Overlooks the 18th Century walled garden and specialises in home-cooked and traditional Lancashire dishes.

THE CONFERENCE CENTRE in the Barn is the perfect venue for meetings and conferences. It is fully equipped with presentational aids and can seat up to 70 people. Full catering can be provided throughout the day. For bookings telephone: 01282 677150 (9 - 5 weekdays only)
