What We Do

The Association has meetings for members every year, with the Annual General Meeting in October. The formalities are brief, and there are interesting talks and presentations.

Visits can be arranged to other Heritage Centres and historic places (suggestions welcome).

We have a collection of books, paintings, photographs and slides, artefacts etc, at the Heritage Centre, and make recordings for a Heysham Sound Archive. We hope to have a genealogical section.

What have we achieved?

The planning application in 1991/2 to build on the coastal field was referred to a Public Enquiry. It was turned down for the present.

In 1993 we drew the attention of the National Trust to Heysham Head and its monuments. To its great credit the National Trust has now taken into its care the public part of Heysham Head, and the cliff section of the private part.

For the village, HHA entered into a Regeneration Partnership (1995 - 2000) with the City Council and other organisations to raise funds and carry out restoration.

What are our plans?

Guided Walks/Trail leaflets

In 1997 HHA published a simple trail leaflet entitled 'Exploring Heysham' including a sketch map. Thousands of copies of this have been sold and it is updated and still available.

At the opening of the Heritage Centre two substantial trail leaflets in colour were produced, one for the Village and one for the National Trust area.

Association members conduct Guided Walks around the village, in which the history is explained. These are either organised by HHA or are operated in collaboration with Lancaster City Council Tourism Department.
